OSU Real Property Dashboard: Strategic Plan Focus

Quantifiable metrics of any university unit’s performance are critical to being able to tell the story of both performance and value added. With the advent of OSU’s newest strategic plan, entitled Prosperity Widely Shared in late 2023, Real Property had an opportunity to re-contextualize the “what” and the “why” of how the office serves the needs of the broader university. This dashboard draws upon data contained in existing RP Map layers in order to offer a broad overview of the work of the unit and how it directly ties to the university’s strategic goals. While no maps are featured as part of the dashboard, the widgets draw directly from the GIS data, requiring no extra maintenance beyond what is already done to update the data via existing processes.
OSU STARS Sustainability Metric Dashboard

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) has created the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, & Rating System (STARS) as a standardized program by which institutions can assess, track, and compare performance on the institution’s environmental sustainability efforts. Several STARS category metrics have historically been drawn from OSU GIS data, however these were previously part of the data maintained by three different offices – Campus GIS, University Land Use Planning, and Real Property. This dashboard aggregates data for four STARS metrics: managed green space, tree canopy, and protected and restored land, as well as general metrics around ownership and leasing necessary for the OSU Sustainability office to calculate statistics for such metrics in OSU’s annual STARS report. This dashboard now serves as a “one stop shop” for the latest metrics for each year’s report, with the underlying data maintained as part of existing processes whenever OSU ownership of leasing changes.
